Hope in the Lord

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:31
The cancer has grown. There was an urgency in the air as treatment options were presented, attesting to the doctor's concern. With the diagnosis moving from an indolent, slow-growing cancer back to an aggressively-growing one, that should be expected.  It seemed a bit surreal to be discussing quality of life over quantity of life. Had it really come to this? -- It had.

The prognosis is bleak. If Matt does nothing, the average life expectancy is 2-4 months. If he takes chemo, you get to add on another 2-3 months of life. That's not a prognosis that inspires, brings hope, or strengthens you in your inner being.

Thankfully God offers a different hope. Only God can offer hope in a hopeless situation. Not hope in a prognosis, but hope in HIM.  As we keep our hope in the Lord, He has promised to renew our strength. If we hope in the Lord, He has promised that we will soar on wings like eagles, that we will be able to run and not grow weary, and that we will be able to walk and not be faint. Right now I could settle for just being able to walk and not be faint, but we'll claim the promise that we will also be able to soar on wings like the eagle!

  1. As we humans tend to worry about winning the race down here on "this" earth, it is ever so refreshing to here you revise God's words in that he has promised that we will soar on wings like eagles, that we'll be able to run and not grow weary, and that we'll be able to walk and not faint. I love you and Matt so very much!!!!!!!!!I pray for God to lead you and guide you both and your family as he has always done and I know he will! With LOVE from Tennesse~deborah jane harris anziano

  2. I will be praying for you and Matt and the family daily. Words truly are inadequate - although you have a wonderful way with them! - but God is more than adequate. My prayer is for grace and strength to walk this most difficult path, with the One who is your refuge and hope.

    Love and prayers............Sheri

  4. I am praying for your family. The news is not what anyone wanted to hear, but I know that you and Matt realize that there is hope in God and assurance in the knowledge that His plans for each of our lives is perfect. God always has the last say in all plans, for which we are thankful.

  6. You all are in our prayers. We love you and will continue to lift you up before our Lord and Savior who keeps our prayers in golden bowls before Him night and day.
    Love from the Mutti's.

Revelation 5:8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people.

  8. Job's friends sat with him for a week and could say nothing. When his friends began giving words of comfort and advice, Job found no comfort in his friend's words; he found his present hope and future hope in God. Even when he wished God would let him alone, God cared for him. Oh how God cares for us! And that has to be our hope!
